Hero of the Week! (6.26.20)
It’s been said, “It’s hard to forget someone who gave so much to remember.” That’s why Kaylin Jones will never be forgot.
We all lost a true hero last week. We wanted to take a moment to share a bit about an incredible person whose impact will forever live on.
We lost Kaylin in a sudden and unexpected way, and not only the SSNC family felt this loss, but the community at large. Kaylin’s contributions, hard work, commitment, and passion, reached so many people, both young and old.
Those who knew her knew how committed she was to our young people and the community. She was an advocate, friend, and leader, and she did her work with an open heart and mind.
When asked about Kaylin, our Executive Director, Devin Hudson had the following to share: “I had the honor to work closely with Kaylin, and I was inspired by the love and passion she displayed. She was the one to show me that when it comes to working with our youth, you have to be honest and authentic and to listen to what they have to say and not tell them what they should do. She was an emerging leader, one who our city needed, especially in these times.”
Many young people have come through SSNC or Milwaukee Academy of Science, who have been positively impacted by her leadership. Her impact here at the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center will be long-lasting, and we know there will always be someone who was touched by her presence.
We are deeply saddened, yet we are grateful that she was a part of the SSNC legacy. Kaylin, thank you for letting your light shine ever so brightly while you were with us and for leaving things better than how you found them. You will forever be a hero to us all.
