At Silver Spring Neighborhood Center, our youth had the opportunity to engage with animals in a hands-on and meaningful way. As they spent time caring for and interacting with the animals, we witnessed qualities such as compassion, kindness, love, and gentleness emerge. These experiences helped youth develop empathy, patience, and a deeper understanding of the importance of caring for other living beings. ... See MoreSee Less

A day with no cell phones, just bikes, climbing trees, laughter, and brotherhood. Sometimes, that's exactly what boys need. Today was a reminder that the best memories are made outdoors, enjoying nature, building friendships, and simply being kids. They had an amazing day unplugged and fully present, making the most of every moment together. 🌳🚲💙 #Brotherhood #Unplugged #OutdoorAdventure #YouthDevelopment #MakingMemories ... See MoreSee Less

To support parents and caregivers, here are a few helpful practices when youth are using rideshares, buses, or other transportation to the Center:🚎🚘🚖🚘

Use the ride tracker When youth are taking an Uber, Lyft, or other rideshare, parents should monitor the trip in real time to ensure the route and drop‑off location are correct.

Verify arrival Whenever possible, confirm that your child has exited the vehicle safely and actually entered the building. A quick call or text can prevent confusion.

Ensure phones are charged Youth should leave home with a charged phone so they can communicate if plans change or if they need help.

Make sure youth know their essential information Teens should know their home address, your phone number, and the Center’s address so they can communicate clearly with drivers or staff if needed.

Encourage honest communication Remind youth that it’s always safer to tell the truth about their whereabouts, even if they’re worried about getting in trouble.

Our goal is to keep every young person safe as they travel to and from Silver Spring Neighborhood Center. We appreciate the partnership of parents and caregivers in helping us maintain a secure environment for all youth.
