Hero of the Week! (3.13.20)
It’s time for the SSNC…HERO OF THE WEEK!
This is Raymond Unanka, Principal at Browning Elementary for the last 5 years.
Every day, Principal Unanka heads in to work to oversee approximately 350 kids and around 50 staff members.
Originally from Nigeria, Principal Unanka says he believes in the African proverb of “It Takes a Village”. For children to be successful, they need a strong support structure to have safe and healthy experiences to help them grow. Principal Unanka goes out of his way getting parents, the staff, the children, and himself coordinated and engaged.
He has devoted his life to helping kids achieve their potential and giving them the best possible chance for success. Between Cardinal Stritch and UW-Milwaukee, he has obtained three Master’s degrees including an emphasis on special education and behavioral disorders.
One of his biggest strengths is his ability to empathize. Some of the children at Browning have very complicated circumstances and it’s crucial to understand that dynamic. He believes in the importance of listening and earning the trust of the kids.
From all of us here at the SSNC, we want to thank Principal Unanka for his passion in guiding the children and teachers of our community. He is a shining example of leadership, a role model to many, and one of the biggest contributors to our community of success.
That’s why he is our…
