Hero of the Week! (2.14.20)
It’s time… for the SSNC HERO OF THE WEEK
This is Alexus Bounyong, Peer Connector for our Opportunity Youth Program at the SSNC.
If you’re unfamiliar with the term Opportunity Youth, it refers to disengaged youth who are out of school and out of work aged 16 to 24, a population Alexus fell into. The goal of the program is to break the cycle of poverty and assist our participants in becoming self-sufficient adults by securing life sustaining work. Alexus is a model participant in this program and is a shining example of what it means to overcome obstacles.
Alexus has become a “Peer Connector” for the SSNC. Peer Connectors are Opportunity Youth participants based in the community who are relatable to the youth, allowing them to reach folks in ways that typical case managers and outreach personnel may not. They work with the participants to introduce them to the program and support them along the journey of being re-engaged. Alexus is an inspiration to all of us here at the SSNC.
She is working hard for herself, her future child, but also others like her who found themselves in difficult circumstances. We at the SSNC are so lucky to have people like her in our community, working to better their own lives as well as those of others.
That’s why she is our… HERO OF THE WEEK!
