Hero of the Week! (7.17.20)
This is Patricia Schmal, Adult Education Coordinator for the past 8 years here at the SSNC. Pat is retiring at the end of this month but we wanted to share a bit about her tenure here because her impact will not be forgotten!
Working with MATC over the years, Pat has done an incredible job leading the adult education program here at the SSNC. With a Master's in Adult Education from the University of Wyoming, Pat spent her entire career helping people better themselves through education. At the SSNC, seeing over 40 students a day, she's touched countless lives!
She's worked diligently for years helping people achieve their General Educational Development Test (GED), High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) or simply helping adults upgrade their educational skills. When asked what this job meant to her she simply said: "It's been a pleasure meeting every student that came through. I truly believes I've learned as much from them as they from me."
82 individuals have gotten their GED under her guidance with another 78 receiving their HSED. Anyone in adult education can tell you that is no small feat!
Pat will be missed dearly, but luckily the adult education programming is being left in incredible hands! We are blessed to be partnered with Literacy Services of Wisconsin (LSW) who will provide comprehensive adult educational programming to help increase capacity at SSNC moving forward.
We want to congratulate Pat on a well earned retirement. While she says she plans on "moving somewhere warmer", we know she will keep in touch with us at the center as well as students shes taught because that's just the type of amazing person she is! For a lifetime of helping others, we want to salute you on behalf of all you've done and everyone you've helped. Thank you Pat! That's why she's our... HERO OF THE WEEK!
