The Elaine Schreiber Child Development Center is a licensed childcare center operated by Silver Spring Neighborhood Center.

We serve more than 100 children ages six weeks to 12 years

90% of our Early Childhood Education participants are at age-appropriate reading level by third grade compared to just 12% in Milwaukee Public Schools

95% of participants improved communication skills

95% of children displayed developmental improvement in cognitive skills

Recently we’ve received a 4 Star YoungStar rating

After School
For K5 through 8th grade

The learning doesn’t have to end when the school day does

Our Afterschool Programs provide many opportunities for academic enrichment, including tutorial services to help students meet State and local student performance standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and mathematics.

In addition, we offer our Afterschool participants a broad array of services, programs, and activities, such as:

  • Youth development activities
  • Drug and violence prevention programs
  • Counseling programs
  • Art
  • Music
  • Recreation programs
  • Technology education programs
  • Character education programs

Browning Elementary After School program hosts monthly Family Nights. Themes have included Black History Month, Safe Halloween, Math Night and Literacy Night. Each night emphasizes the connections between parent involvement in academic success and post-social behavior. As many as 200 families attended our events.

Meal Program

It’s hard to be hungry for knowledge when you haven’t eaten

One hot meal per day is provided Monday through Friday to all participants in our after school Meal Program. The meals are provided through the MPS Nutritional Meal Program.

In our early childhood center, we prepare healthy meals in our own kitchen.
